Legacy Awards

Legacy Awards allow students to study online at excellent accredited Canadian colleges and universities tuition free, and with the added assistance of a class assigned tutor/subject matter expert. Study challenges cost and price myths of online education.

How Legacy Awards work

Students that enroll in the program choose a course of study and tell as many local businesses and potential sponsors as possible about their goal(s) and ambition(s). These potential sponsors/contributors are offered an opportunity to share in the hopes and dreams of the student by offering $497, or one-tenth the cost of the program fee. Contributors may volunteer to offer $994 instead of$497 once it has been explained to them that the extra $497 will go directly towards supporting Indigenous students into the program.

What do supporters get for their participation?

Good question! All supporters receive a downloadable and printable PDF that is frame worthy or may also be put onto a plaque. All PDFs contain a brief student biography and a lengthy focus on business owners history regarding their business, business location and significance to the community; and how the modest contribution to the Legacy Awards program will significantly impact the life of the student going forward. The business owner may then display a farmed copy at their normal place of business for all to see.

By the Numbers

Legacy Awards Programs - By the Numbers

All 50 programs start Wednesday, September 01, 2021.

8 fully accredited Canadian colleges and 8 fully accredited Canadian universities provide the 50 certificate programs; 25 of the lead programs are provided by colleges, and 25 of the lead programs are sourced  from universities.

The eight Canadian colleges are: Algonquin College, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), George Brown College, Grande Prairie Regional College, Lakeland College, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Seneca College.

The eight Canadian universities are: Grant MacEwan University, University of British Columbia, Ryerson University, University of Toronto, University of Victoria, Waterloo University, Western University, and York University.

Of the 50 programs 11, (22%) offer dual certificates opportunities. And 7, (14%) provide additional courses that augment the primary course or program.

26 of the 50 programs are IT related, that represents 52% of the total number.  There are 9 programs with the theme “marketing.” There are 5 programs with the theme “Cyber security.” There are 5 programs with the theme “web design or development.” There are 3 programs with the theme “administrative or office services specialization.” There are 3 programs with the theme “purchasing or buying.” There are 2 programs with the theme “supply chain manag;ement.” There are 2 programs with the theme “robotics.” There are 2 programs for budding business owners or “entrepreneurs.” There are 2 programs for those interested in “property or facility management.”

There are 32 programs that are similar or somewhat similar in nature; these 32 programs are identified and cross referenced in the alphabetical list of programs.

Minimum class numbers are 500. Maximum full class numbers are 1,950.
There are only 38 annual seats available for each province and territory as a minimum and 150 annual seats available for each province and territory at the maximum amount of students allowed as potential participants each year.

The minimum class size per program is 10 and the maximum is 39. An increase to accommodating the maximum students per class is based solely on  demand. In order to go to the full class load, there must be a demand from at least 40 or more students per class/program. Where there is an excessive demand for a program, the first 35 to acquire the program fee from contributors will secure a seat. In such cases, 4 seats per program are set aside as a priority for FN students for up to 30 days before the start of the program. A waiting list is created to ensure all programs are populated fairly and reasonably.

If a class has less than 10 confirmed registered students before the scheduled start date, the class will be postponed until the quorum is achieved.

First Nations (FN) students goal is 50, which represents 10% of the 500 minimum confirmed registered students. Just 1 in every 10 sponsors opting to contribute $994, will get us to our minimum goal, as $497 of the $994 goes directly and 100% towards funding First Nations students tuition free education experience.

$497 is the standard ask. $994 = names at the bottom of other acknowledgement profile (9 other acknowledged names per student/contributor profile) will be bolded in black ink. The extra $497 directed exclusively to FN’s students to cover their books and tuition for their selected program. Businesses or individuals may sponsor FN’s students directly, putting up the entire $4,970 cost per program/seat.

50 total programs require 50 primary instructors and 50 back-up instructors/subject matter experts (SME’s). Keep in mind that some programs require us to pay SME’S for 18 months and up to 36 months. However, the importance of SME’s cannot be understated, as online learning success soars from 60% when there is no SME to over 90% completions success rate when there is a SME leading and or facilitating a class.
